the anticipation of a bride waiting for ceremony

Caroline and Brian held their ceremony and reception at the House of Blues in New Orleans Louisiana. The first look was photographed at the Monteleone Hotel on Royal St. The ceremony took place outside in the courtyard followed by a traditional New Orleans second line jazz parade leading up to the Parish Room. The reception was non-stop dancing by what seemed like everyone in the room! Just a wonderful wedding to photograph.

Great day for a bridal session at Latrobe’s in the French Quarter! I’m always trying to view a scene in a different way and love using reflections through windows. More from Taylor’s French Quarter bridal session and New Orleans wedding coming soon!

I left out the “e” in Monochrome on purpose this week since this image was created using the Leica Monochrom M rangefinder camera on loan from Leica during the Leica Akademie Monochrom workshop last week at the Leica Store DC. Yes that’s a lot of Leica in one sentence! Tom A. Smith of Leica and photographer Quinton Gordon lead the workshop.

I’m usually a 35mm or 50mm lens user so I challenged myself by using a 75mm lens on the Monochrom for the day. Focusing through a smaller viewfinder window is a challenge in itself not to mention photographing at a wide open aperture with a telephoto lens. I came across this guitar player performing downtown and experimented with different focusing points from his hands, face and guitar strings.

This is the second year I had the opportunity to photograph La Vuelta cycling peloton in Puerto Rico. Probably one of the most physical shoots I’ve ever experienced. I’m riding on the back of a motorcycle for 3 days covering 375 miles while photographing cyclists just a few feet away that can exceed 35 miles per hour.

The event tests your photography skills for sure, knowing your craft is a must. The day starts in darkness and will turn into extreme bright sun within just a couple hours. Each day consists of : Get on the bike, photograph the cyclists as your motorcycle whizzes by, get ahead of the riders and scout a location to shoot, get off the bike quickly, get in position, check your gear, check the light, shoot the cyclists, run back to bike, get back on bike, adjust gear, go go go! Great team we had again this year Chris Pike, Kip Pierson and myself. Thanks to Kip and the La Vuelta team for bringing me back.

“Will I see you tonight
On a downtown train
All of my dreams just fall like rain
All upon a downtown train” – Tom Waits

I thought these lyrics fit perfectly.
